THE SPOTLIGHT WORKSHOPS
presents
UNDERSTANDING THE
MIND OF THE HERO
CREATING CHARACTERS THAT ARE CAPTIVATING, CONVINCING, AND COMPELLING
SATURDAY, April 7th, 2018
9am – 12 noon
at
CBS Radford Studios
4024 Radford Avenue
Studio City, CA 91604
To create a compelling hero, you have to understand what motivates a hero…
Captivating stories need convincing, complex, and compelling characters, especially when it comes to the archetypal hero, since people often see a need for a hero, aspire to be the hero, and desire to identify with the hero. A well-crafted hero not only serves the story, but also helps audiences navigate through their own journeys.
Learn the intricacies of the hero, why this archetype is important to the human spirit, and about creating the mind of the hero that is psychologically and philosophically compelling.
Novelist Brian S. Chan will teach about crafting the hero and the use of the universal monomythic plot structure, presenting substantive content and facilitating helpful exercises. This is the first Spotlight Workshop in a series of three that covers the hero archetype, the shadow archetype, and the companion, sage & shapeshifter archetypes.
Who should attend:
Screenwriters, novelists, actors, directors, producers, and STORYTELLERS of ALL TYPES!
By the end of this class you’ll be able to:
* Understand the importance of the hero character and how to make it matter to audiences’
* Understand the mind and motivations of the hero
* Know the principles and techniques for crafting a well-developed hero’s mind
