ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
MICHAEL SWANSON
Emmy
Award-Winning Film Producer and TV Studio Executive, Michael Swanson is
Vice President of Production for Universal
Television. He joined
NBCUniversal in 2010. He oversees production
operations for some of the studio’s most popular TV series including
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox) starring Andy Samberg
and Andre Braugher, “Master of None” (Netflix)
starring Aziz Ansari, “The Good Place” (NBC)
starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, “Parks and
“Recreation” (NBC) starring Amy Poehler,
“Community” (NBC/Yahoo) starring Joel McHale,
“Maury Povich” (Syndication), and
“Food Fighters” (NBC).
Michael’s other productions include
the multiple award-winning romantic feature films, “All About
Us” and “All About You,” written
and directed by his wife, filmmaker Christine Swanson.
All About Us stars Boris Kodjoe, Ryan Bathí©, Ruby Dee, and Academy
Award winner Morgan Freeman in a special appearance. The
äóìindie classicäó All About You stars Rení©e Elise Goldsberry, Terron Brooks,
LisaRaye, Lou Myers, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Debbie Allen.
Michael executive produced the 2015
original cable movies “To Hell and Back,” a
contemporary retelling of the Biblical story of Job, starring Ernie Hudson and
Vanessa Bell Calloway; and “For The Love of Ruth,”
based on the Biblical character Ruth, starring Denise Boutte, Gary Dourdan, and
Loretta Devine. Michael also produced the inspirational documentary
film The Wayman Tisdale Story, featuring Wayman Tisdale,
Dave Koz, Jonathan Butler, Toby Keith, and Michael Jordan, for which he won the
Emmy. During this same time, Michael produced and
directed the Gospel music documentary featurette, Andraí© Crouch:
Making of The Journey, featuring Grammy Award winners Andraí© Crouch,
Chaka Khan, Take 6, Donnie McClurkin, Sheila E., Rance Allen, and Marvin
Winans.
After a stint in Princeton
Theological Seminary’s Master of Divinity program, Michael joined NBCUniversal’s
national primetime sales team and co-managed advertising accounts reaching up
to $30 million each. Michael was also a part of the 1997
äóìMust See TVäó sales team that became the first in broadcast
network TV history to book over $2.2 billion in advertising revenue during
upfront selling period.
Michael earned his BA degree in Film
& Television from the University of Notre Dame.
He serves on the boards of the Asomugha
Foundation, Holy Name of Jesus School, the
STEP Foundation, and is an Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences member. A South Side of Chicago
native, Michael resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Christine, and their four
children.
