10-DAY TUSCANY WRITING RETREAT
WITH ALAN WATT, CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF L.A. WRITERS’ LAB
Come and join us on this once in a lifetime journey to the Tuscany countryside and lose yourself in the world of your story!
Imagine completing a marathon writing session followed by the succulent tastes of Tuscan bistecca fiorentina, fresh grilled vegetables, ravioli alla checca, and truffle cheese. Take a siesta, go for a swim in the pool, or just stroll through the twelve-hectare property of olive trees and ancient vineyards. Quiet your mind. Listen to the story that lives fully and completely within you. Meet for a writing workshop with Al on story structure, explore your protagonist’s dilemma, experience the breakthrough that the clamor of daily life was not permitting to emerge. Laugh. Cry. Share your work with a community of supportive fellow artists. Meet for supper. Read your work. Watch a classic film and fall asleep to the sounds of… silence.
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, 28 kilometers outside of Florence, sits Podere le Rondini, one of Tuscany’s most acclaimed villas, and winner of the tourism industry’s Certificate of Excellence for the last five consecutive years. Set on twelve hectares and containing it’s own winery and olive farm, this stunning eighteenth-century Tuscan villa contains nine bedrooms, each with an adjoining bathroom, and all the modern amenities including a large outdoor swimming pool. This all-inclusive retreat includes room, three meals a day prepared by our personal Tuscan chef, Franco Bartoletti (and accompanied by superb local wines), writing workshops, and a day trip to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. There are opportunities to book a Tuscan cooking class, hot-air ballooning, wine tastings, horseback riding in the countryside, truffle hunting and shopping at the world-famous luxury outlet “The Mall.”

Alan Watt first began teaching when he was invited to lecture at a summer creative writing workshop at UCLA in 1998. He has been teaching and lecturing on the creative process in Los Angeles and at colleges around the country ever since.
He founded L.A. Writers’ Lab in 2002 as a place for writers to deepen their craft by learning to marry the rigor of story structure to the freedom of the muse. He has taught everyone from award-winning authors to A-list screenwriters, USC business school students, journalists, poets, actors, professional athletes, war veterans, housewives, doctors, lawyers, maximum security prisoners, television showrunners, Emmy-winning directors, and first-time writers. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers, writing New York Times and International bestsellers, appearing on Oprah, winning major literary awards, becoming top screenwriters and television show-runners, and most importantly, developing a craft and methodology that delivers consistent results. His mantra is that by placing our focus on craft and process the results take care of themselves.
The workshops are limited to nine writers. Partners are welcome to come for the retreat!

TESTIMONIALS:
“For years I have been fascinated by the industry legend of how Alan Watt wrote his masterful novel, Diamond Dogs, in 90 days. Now, at last, he shares his secrets. The 90-Day Novel is smart, insightful, thorough and wise. It’s also one of the best books on novel writing I have ever seen. I feel confident that anyone who takes this program seriously will have a solid manuscript to show for the effort.”
— David Liss, New York Times bestselling author of A Conspiracy of Paper, Ballantine Books
“I seriously didn’t even think this could be a reality until I took Alan Watt’s 90-Day Novel workshop!”
— Aditi Khorana, author of Mirror in the Sky, Razorbill, Penguin Books
“I owe so much to Al Watt and the 90-Day Novel. It was in his workshop where my debut young adult novel, The Education of Margot Sanchez, came to life. He created such a safe and welcoming space that I was able to overcome my fears of failure and write freely.”
— Lilliam Rivera, author of The Education of Margot Sanchez, Simon & Schuster
“Al’s 90-Day Novel is the best writing workshop I have ever taken. The supportive nature of the class inspires and motivates you to write every day and to get to the true heart of your story. By the end of the 90th day I had completed my rough draft (300 pages long) and developed a writing ritual that I have adopted for the rest of my life. Thank you Al!”
— Jennifer L. Scott, international best-selling author of Lessons from Madame Chic, Simon & Schuster
“Al Watt is a master teacher with a brilliant, intuitive understanding of story.”
— Allen Zadoff, author of The Unknown Assassin Series, Little Brown Books
“For the daunting task of writing my first novel, I needed support and a nice kick in the pants. Al has a great foot! He is a skilled and adventuresome navigator, helping me explore what lies uniquely within my subconscious, which, when prodded with loving hands, knows the truth of my story all along. Al sends out the perfect signals to get you to the end of your novel.”
— Donna Powers, co-screenwriter of The Italian Job
