Milivoj Ilic is a London-based writer, director, producer, and film artist with a multifaceted career spanning advertising, television, and film. 

 

Ilic, the son of Yugoslav émigrés, studied film and drama at Bulmershe College, Reading. He began his career in advertising, directing numerous commercials and earning a Silver Creative Circle Award for Best Commercial. His advertising clients included Absolut Vodka, Samsung, and Ford. 

 

Beyond advertising, Ilic has made significant contributions to video art and film:

  • Video Art: He co-created “Living Portraits” with Chris Springhall in 1995, a series of filmed portraits exhibited using early plasma screens and considered visionary for predicting the role of moving image art in the 21st century. He has continued to explore themes of identity, dislocation, and anxiety in his video art, exhibiting internationally and licensing his work to clients like Virgin Atlantic, BBC, and Channel 4. His work has been displayed in galleries, on the street, and at festivals.
  • Film & Television: Ilic has directed and produced documentaries and light entertainment programs for the BBC and Channel 4. Notable projects include co-directing and co-producing the BBC Three series “Mark Owen’s Celebrity Scooters” and directing the Channel 4 documentary “Guča” about a Serbian brass festival. He is currently focusing on developing film and television projects, with his feature-length scripts gaining industry attention. 

Ilic’s work has been praised for its dynamic creativity and ability to convey a clear vision across different moving image disciplines. He is recognized as a skilled storyteller who effectively uses visuals to explore complex themes and ideas.
