Tony Giordano’s Biography

“BROOKLYN ODYSSEY,” Tony’s screenplay earned awards as FINALIST from LA Film Awards and New York’s Screenwriters Contest. It is a dramatic/comic coming of age script. Armand Assante said of it: “This is what we all went into the business to create, but most of us forgot how to do it, except Tony.” Tony wrote and directed his musical Habana Carnaval in Cuba 2006. In 2005 he co-adapted a Dutch musical called Sacco & Vanzetti, which Tony titled The American Dream, and directed it in a concert version at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven. In New York he directed Ladyhouse Blues with Jo Henderson, G.R. Point with John Heard, Snow Orchid, with Olympia Dukakis and Peter Boyle, The Chekhov Sketchbook with Joseph Buloff, Bill Gibson’s Handy Dandy with James Whitmore and Audra Lindley, Kingdoms with Armand Assante, and Mixed Emotions, with Katherine Helmond and Harold Gould. His production of The Tavern won Best Director and Best Production from Los Angeles’s Outer Critic’s Circle & Dramalogue Awards, and his Substance of Fire Best Production from the Florida critics. His Lend Me A Tenor was reviewed as “The best production in the history of Trinity Rep.” Highlighted among his 150 productions are Long Day’s Journey Into Night at Canada’s Citadel, Yale Rep’s Curse of the Starving Class, Athol Fugard’s Hello and Goodbye, and The Day of the Picnic starring James Earle Jones. Tony also directed NBC’s Another World and The Doctors, as well as ABC’s One Life To Live, and Loving. Tony wrote three books about his experiences, “Brooklyn Odyssey,” ”Tonight I Won’t Be Acting” and “Not For Prophet.” (Amazon Books). He also wrote the screenplay of “Brooklyn Odyssey.” Tony received Italy’s GRAND CROSS for lifetime achievement and Catholic University’s GILBERT for career achievement.
