The most recent news as 2025 begins is that the film rights to Martin’s yet-to-be-published children’s novel MANHATTAN RAT has been optioned by writer and artist John Chambers. His children’s novel PEG LEG GUS has also been translated to German by author and screenwriter Johannes Betz and is headed for publication later this year.

Martin’s family comedy WELCOME TO EARTH is heading for production in 2026 with Georg Maas to direct, and his rom-com DIE AFFÄRE is in development with German writer Ulla Ziemann and with Florian Froschmayer attached to direct.

Martin has written the bible and pilot episodes for the teen comedy series THE FINSTERSTEINS, from the books by Kai Lüftner, for Henning Windelband of youngfilms, in co-production with international distribution company Beta Films. UK director Catherine Morshead will direct. For Henning, Martin has also written the screen adaptation of Andreas Eschbach‘s novel THE LAST OF HIS KIND.

Martin’s latest project (with pitch and first three scripts completed) is the adult animation comedy series BUTTERFLYMAN.

Martin has written comedy and animation material for several companies in Germany and Ireland, from Irish classics like ‘Bosco’ and ‘Wanderly Wagon’ to the animation series ‘Inis Cool’ and ‘The Muscleteers’.

Martin acts regularly as script consultant for film companies in Ireland and Germany and is fluent in German. He translates German scripts to English for such major companies as Constantin Film and X-Filme.

Looking back: After years of experience writing and editing drama and documentary for television, Martin wrote and directed his first feature film ‘The Boy from Mercury’ in 1996. Martin has directed three other feature films since then – working in Ireland, the USA and the UK – while continuing his writing output. This includes children’s novels, books on social history, and radio plays plus several documentaries for German and Irish national radio.

Martin’s memoir of his youth, LEIGHLIN ROAD, is available in print, as ebook and as audiobook. For more information on Martin and his work visit his related website: www.leighlinroad.com.
