KEYNOTE – All the World’s An App: Channeling the Past, Present and Future of Media, Entertainment and Technology
A one-time exclusive keynote by Jonathan Handel, an entertainment and technology lawyer at TroyGould and a contributing editor at The Hollywood Reporter. He is also an adjunct professor at USC and Southwestern law schools and writes poetry and plays, including “Trump – The Musical!” He was previously a computer scientist and was involved in local politics for a decade. Jonathan is the author of several books on entertainment labor, and has been interviewed and quoted in the media over 1,000 times on entertainment and technology law and business topics. He is a graduate of Harvard College in applied Math and Computer Science and of Harvard Law School.

Strategies on How to Finance Your Independent Project
Harris Tulchin (Cornell) will share the strategies insiders use to finance independent projects. Harris E. Tulchin is a graduate of Cornell University and Hastings Law School, and has practiced law since 1978. He has lectured extensively at forums such as UCLA, USC, AFI, IFP, IFTA, The Sundance Producer’s Conference, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Berlin, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Moscow, Rio, to mention a few, has been an adjunct professor of law at Southwestern law school in Los Angeles, and brings a wealth of studio and private practice experience. He has served as Senior Vice President of Business Affairs and General Counsel for Cinema Group; General Counsel and Head of Business Affairs for KCET Television; Senior Counsel for United Artists; Director of Business Affairs at MGM Television; and Counsel for American International Pictures and Filmways Pictures (now Orion Pictures). His clients have included SONY, Ed Pressman, Ice Cube, David Lynch, Gary Lucchesi, Showtime, HBO, PolyGram, Summit Entertainment, and numerous independent producers, writers, directors and actors. Tulchin has produced or executive produced over 15 motion pictures, and he is the co-author of a book considered one of the bibles of the motion picture industry entitled “The Independent Film Producer’s Survival Guide.”

As CEO and Editor in Chief for The Wrap, Sharon Waxman is an award-winning journalist and best-selling author, a former Hollywood correspondent for The New York Times, and a leading authority on the entertainment business and media. Before the Times, she was a correspondent for eight years for The Washington Post. She started out as a foreign correspondent, covering Europe and the Middle East for a decade. She is the author of two books, including, “Rebels on the Backlot: Six Maverick Directors and How They Conquered the Hollywood Studio System.”

ABOUT THE MENTORS:
Michelle Brattson (Dartmouth / Dreamworks, Amblin, Netflix) – Michelle Brattson is a Physical Production executive at Netflix on the Original Films team. Her current feature films include MURDER MYSTERY, THE KING, and the upcoming BRIGHT 2. She has a BA from Dartmouth College and an MFA from USC ‘s School of Cinematic Arts in Producing. She started her career in development at New Regency, and then spent twelve years as a Production Coordinator and Production Manager on films such as ANGELS & DEMONS, FROST/NIXON, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, NEIGHBORS, and INTERSTELLAR. Before Netflix, she spent 2 years at DreamWorks/Amblin supervising productions including A DOG’S PURPOSE, GIRL ON THE TRAIN, and OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY. Michelle is a member of I.A.T.S.E., and the Producer’s Guild of America. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, son, and dog.

Josh Fisher (Disney, Nickelodeon, Netflix) – Josh Fisher is an Emmy award winning executive with over 15 years experience creating and producing successful and engaging content for young audiences. He has developed and produced animation, live action, game worlds, apps, and has worked with companies such as Disney, Nickelodeon, YouTube, Cartoon Network, and more. Prior to joining Netflix, Josh was VP of Development at DHX in Los Angeles. He was also Senior Creative Director and Executive Producer at Spin Master where he led TV and content development and co-created Rusty Rivets (Nickelodeon). Josh also spearheaded Spin Master’s YouTube initiative SpindoTV. Prior to Spin Master, Josh was SVP of Content and a partner at Brandissimo where he led creative for TV as well as game and virtual world development. Josh drove and supervised all creative for the NFL’s digital youth strategy including games, game worlds, experiences, kid focused news and information. He lives in Burbank with his wife, two sons, two dogs, and anxiety.
