HIRING
SCREENWRITING INSTRUCTOR
STAR
TV (FOX TV IN INDIA) WRITERS PROGRAM FOR 5 MONTHS IN MUMBAI
We are hiring a SCREENWRITING
INSTRUCTOR (who we’ll train with our course materials) for the Star
Writers Program — in Mumbai!
This job would require you to be in
Mumbai for 5-1/2 months near the start of 2018, and for 5
months at the start of 2019.
20th Century Fox
Television in India is called “Star TV.”
It’s the largest network in the country.
Once a year in Mumbai, Star TV runs
the Star Writers Program, an elite television screenwriting program.
Over 600 people compete for 15 openings. The program runs 8
hours per day, 5 days a week, for 4 1/2 months. After that, the
writers have a 2-month internship.
Star is looking to train someone to
teach the program. The person hired will be trained under David’s
supervision to teach the course, and will also do some co-teaching.
The individual we hire WILL
NOT need to come up with a curriculum, assignments, film and TV clips to show,
etc. You will be teaching the curriculum that already
exists, and giving the students the writing assignments that have been proven
to work in the past. Even the film and TV clips that are needed for the
the course already exist.
The detailed daily curriculum was
developed by the program’s Dean, David Freeman, who also taught the program in
2017 and will do so again in 2018. He is assisted by a great team and
lots of technology. All the writers are paid to attend the program,
and the graduates get a 2-year writing job with Star upon graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We’re looking for someone
who has at least ONE of these qualifications:
1) Has credits as a TV
writer or film writer (and of course is a member of the WGA). The
more TV or film experience/credits, the better.
2) Or has taught
screenwriting before at a college or university for a few years.
Only those who have one or both of
the above qualifications will be considered.
REQUIREMENTS:
Personality – we’re looking
for someone who is extroverted, fun, fast-on-their-feet (maybe even
entertaining?), loves working as part of a fast-paced team, and who is able to
improve a writer’s dialogue on the fly (that’s important).
The person should also be caring,
able to inspire, and be professional with sterling ethics. It takes
energy and passion to do this job, so it won’t work for those who are
“low-key” or “mellow.” And of course this kind of
position isn’t for the shy.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
The first installment of
the job would be from Mid-January, 2018, and continue on for 5 months.
Since this is not a round-the-year
job, it’s perfect for someone who has other projects going on “on the
side.” A screenwriter would be an example. That being
said, while the program is actually in progress, you’ll be too busy to pursue
outside work.
And then we’d need that same person
back in 2019 for 5 months, around the same time period. (If the
person prefers, we could squeak by with them working just 4 months in 2019.)
But being able to commit to teaching the program in 2019 is a key requirement
— for that’s the only reason we’re training them in 2018.
If the person wants more work, it’s
also possible that there may be a bit more work available here and there
throughout 2018 and 2019.
SALARY:
Salary to be
negotiated.
TRAVEL:
Star would pay for your
round-trip business class flight, provide all accommodations, and help take
care of your visa and other paperwork.
