Personal Bio

Thomas Thorpe received a B.A. Astronomy-Physics and M.A. Astronomy, at the University of California, Los Angeles. During his college years, he worked summer jobs at the Lowell Observatory, the Johnson Space Center with the original seven astronauts, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Following college, he evaluated Lunar Orbiter and Earth reconaissance images at the Eastman Kodak Company.

In 1970 he began a career at the Jet Propusion Lab, first as the Mariner 9 and Viking Orbiter Television Experiment Representative, then Science Manager for the Mars Observer Project, and ultimately, Project Manager of the Mars Global Surveyor Mission where he managed MGS operations for ten years. Concurrently, as Adjunct Professor of Astronomy, he taught astronomy at Gendale college (Extended day program).

Mr. Thorpe has published seven historical novels of the Darmon Mystery series about a couple from Kent solving international crimes during the 1820 to 1860’s.

Thomas writes grounded science fiction screenplays. Several minimal cost scripts have a female protagonist in the present day, any city, 3-5 locations, no or little F/X. His scripts have placed or won over 40 film festivals.
